Food wasting is the main problem in the present. We, people, like to buy a lot of things that we don’t really need, and they end up getting bad or expired. Plus, imagine how many hungry people are on this planet but food is still wasted. We just need to learn how to manage our shopping cart and make it only for the things we really need at the time. Here’s a 10 tips to help you save food and feel less guilty about that. 

If you have bunch of bananas that started getting dark, do not throw them away. Peel them, chop them and freeze them. You can make some amazing desserts with them such as frozen banana ice-cream, banana bread or put them in a smoothie. You’ll thank me later.

You can always pre-shred your Parmesan cheese and freeze it, it will last longer, and it will be ready for your quick pasta sauce on a lazy day.

If you have a lot of tomatoes left that are starting to soften, make some decadent home-made marinara sauce and put it in a jar.

Pre chop veggies such as celery, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower etc. freeze them and you will have soup ready ingredients anytime.

Buy what you really need. Always try to plan your meals up ahead so when you go grocery shopping you buy only what you’ll need. That way you’ll save food and save some money.

Spread the love and donate. When you have a bunch of leftover meals from some kind of party and you don’t know what to do with it, you can always donate it to the homeless people. That way they won’t be hungry, and you would be proud of yourself by making a good deed. Bonus, food won’t be wasted.

Neat and organized refrigerator. You should keep your ingredients organized and visible to the eye. For example, if you can’t see your cheese, you’ll probably forget that you have it in the fridge, it’ll get bad and go to waste.

Don’t order too much food from the restaurant. I am a big food lover, and when I order for delivery, I always like to try a lot of different things. The main problem is that I can’t eat them all, so the leftovers will probably go to waste. So, order what you crave at the moment, and only that.

Store food to the right temperature. Keep in mind that the ideal temperature for your refrigerator should be 5 C (41 F).

No one is perfect. We are all guilty when it comes to food waste. Today I’ll get rid of something expired, tomorrow it’s gonna be you. At the end of the day we are human beings, we all make mistakes. The important thing is to start again tomorrow, spread awareness for less food waste and never stop trying.
